The Executive would like to take this opportunity to thank the sponsors and our members for their support during the 2007 season and we would like to welcome new and returning members to the 2008 season. If you have any questions concerning the activities offered by the Madawaska Women’s Club please feel free to contact any member of the Executive. We are open to your suggestions and appreciate any help you are able to give.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Rick Munro and his staff for all the help they have provided during past golf seasons. Did you know that he generously donates golf cart certificates and pro shop certificates for prizes during some of the women’s events? In addition, Rick donates four (4) green fees to each of the Wednesday sponsors. This gives you a little indication of the great support offered by the Madawaska Golf Club owner.

Did you know that the $4.00 you contribute on Wednesdays is divided as follows: $1.00 towards the tokens distributed to the top third in each of the A, B, C & D classes (class must have 3 participants), $0.50 towards the draws given out on Wednesday evening and $2.50 towards the club championships?

Here’s to a long and fun-filled season!

WOMEN'S DAY.......... Pat Fournier
NOTE: You must have a CLGA membership card and there will be an annual fee of $20.00 for the card. The deadline for obtaining your CLGA card is 30th of June 2008.

The first women’s day will be Wednesday the 7th of May, 2008.

All women members are welcome to participate in the Wednesday’s women’s golf day.

Before you tee off, you must stop in the Pro Shop where a $4.00 fee is collected when registering. You will be assigned a number at the time of registration, which is used for the draws at the end of the evening, and you must be present to qualify for the draws.

All women members are welcome to participate in the Wednesday’s women’s golf day. The only stipulation is that you must play with another Madawaska member (male or female). There may be some exceptions but hopefully we won’t have to make them! You can play anytime after 2pm but make sure you reserve a tee time. Your ball must be at rest on the fairway to qualify for the longest drive and check to see if you are within the handicap indicated on the marker for that day. Your ball must be on the green to qualify for closest to the hole. Guests are welcome but are expected to pay regular green fees for nine (9) or eighteen (18) holes. Guest’s scores are not eligible for prizes, except on specified days.

The three categories: longest drive, closest to the hole and longest putt may not be won by the same person more than three (3) times in a season. You may only win one (1) prize per night. If you should win more than one (1) category, the other prizes(s) will go to a draw. This year we will do the presentations as soon as the last participating golfer is in the club house. You must be present to receive your prize.

There are three categories based on handicaps as follows: “A” 0 – 18; “B” 19 – 27; and, “C” 28-34, and, “D” 35- 40. In the event of a tie in these categories, the prize is awarded to the lowest handicap. Your score (front 9 holes only and must be played first) is determined by the ‘modified Stapleford’ point system as follows: Eagle 6 points, Birdie 5 points, Par 4 points, Bogie 3 points, Double Bogie 1 point (Plus ½ your handicap). Other scores 0 points. There are ‘Honey Pot’ cards available in the Pro Shop to record these points. You must be present to receive your prize.

Please note:  The categories based on handicaps, as laid out in the above paragraph, have changed since the 2005& 2006 golf season. The changes in class handicaps is not new and, even at Madawaska, has changed from year to year based on the mix of golfers. The Executive will keep a close eye on the mix of golfers for 2008 and will suggest changes if the mix of golfers differs significantly from 2006. This will continue to be an ongoing operation for every Executive.

Tokens, which are redeemable at the bar, restaurant or Pro Shop, are awarded to the top third of each category. A list of the winners will be posted on the women’s bulletin board and will be available on the following Wednesday and/or can be obtained from Pat Fournier. Tokens will not be accepted as payment into tournaments or entry fees for Wednesdays.

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP…………… Executive

All women members of Madawaska are eligible to play in the Club Championship. If you want to play in the Club Championship and have not played in (at least) half of the Wednesday league and half of the club tournaments you will be subject to a pro-rated fee. This fee will be based on the difference between the numbers of games you have played (in the Wednesday league and the club tournaments) versus the number of games you must play. In addition, regardless of the number of “Wednesdays and Tournaments” you have played; there will be a $10.00 fee to enter the Club Championships.

The Club Championships consist of two games; played on a Saturday and Sunday and there will be no exception to the following order of play. The players will play within their own class and will not overlap with any other class.

The order of play for the first day will begin with:

*Class A: lowest handicap first, followed by the second lowest handicap, and so on
*Class B: lowest handicap first, followed by the second lowest handicap, and so on
*Class C: lowest handicap first, followed by the second lowest handicap, and so on
*Class D: lowest handicap first, followed by the second lowest handicap, and so on

The order of play for the second day will begin with:

*Class D: highest score from the first day, followed by the second highest score, etc.
*Class C: highest score from the first day, followed by the second highest score, etc.
*Class B: highest score from the first day, followed by the second highest score, etc.
*Class A: highest score from the first day, followed by the second highest score, etc.

The trophies and prizes will be distributed as follows: Club Champion; Low Net (however the prize will be awarded to this winner based on how they placed in the overall gross ratings); class A, B, C & D winners (excluding the class belonging to the Club Champion); and, the remaining prizes would be distributed to the best low gross within class: i.e. Class A runner up, followed by Class B runner up, followed by Class C runner up, followed by Class D runner up, and so on.  Prizes tables will be categorized.

MATCH PLAY.......... Ruth Sawdon

"Match play" is meant to be a fun event; it allows you to meet new people and gives you the opportunity and experience of playing with members of equal, higher and lower handicaps.

All members interested in “match play” should sign up before the 21st of May. The sign-up sheet will be posted on the Women’s Board. “Match play” is determined by a draw of the interested members. The draw will be posted in early June. The player named first on the draw sheet is responsible for setting up the date and time of the match. Each match is based on eighteen (18) holes and must be played within the specified two-week period. Dates are specified on “match play” draw sheet. In the event of a tie the match will go to another eighteen (18) holes or forfeit. “Match play” scoring is calculated using the player’s handicaps and the women’s hole handicap ratings on the scorecards. For example: a 20 handicap matched with a 30 handicap would mean the 30 handicap would get ten (10) strokes, based on receiving one (1) stroke on each of the ten (10) most difficult holes, according to the women’s handicap ratings on the score card. For further clarification please ask a member of the Executive.

IMPORTANT RULE CHANGES

A golfer may now use any means to remove loose impediments from her line of putt, provided nothing is pressed down. In addition, there is no longer an automatic penalty in either match play or stroke play if a ball off the putting green moves after a loose impediment within a club length of the ball has been removed. These are two of the amendments to the Rules of Golf that have been agreed upon by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews and the United States Golf Association. They went into effect 1st of January 2004. (Source CLGA e-bulletin 23rd of November 2003 - page 4 of 10.)
